Woods full of edible plants, winding rivers bordered by small romantic B&Bs. And then all of a sudden a farmer dressed in pink among red cows. That is the Vechtdal, the valley of the Vecht in the east of the Netherlands.
Vechtdal – No, not the one that all Dutch people will point you to. Not the river Vecht near Utrecht! We mean the 167-kilometre-long river that enters the Netherlands from Germany and passes Rheeze where you can look over the fields full of sheep from your design B&B. It continues past Diffelen, where bush crafter Martin is covering up his tracks. On in the direction of Arriën where at RozemArrie the fresh hand-picked strawberries are the topping on a pancake. And even further to Ommen, where bull Remco swam across the river to get the neighbour’s cow pregnant. That is the valley of the Vecht.
